Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) ELISA Test kit

FSH ELISA Test kit Intended Use
The FSH ELISA is an enzyme immunoassay for quantitative determination of FSH concentration in human serum. The assay is useful in the diagnosis and treatment of pituitary and gonadal disorders.

FSH ELISA Kit Components:
• Microplate: 96 wells coated with monoclonal anti-α-FSH
• Reference standard set
• Enzyme conjugate reagent
• TMB Substrate
• Stop Solution

Method Principle
This Diagnostic Automation/ Cortez Diagnostics Inc. FSH EIA Test is based on the principle of a solid phase enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The assay system utilizes mouse monoclonal anti-alpha FSH for solid phase immobilization, and mouse monoclonal anti-beta FSH in the antibody-enzyme HRP conjugate solution. For further details please refer to complete instructions manual supplied with the product.

Background Information
Circulating level of Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) together with of LH are controlled by sex hormones through a negative feedback. FSH, LH and estradiol are closely related in supporting ovarian maturation in women. FSH levels are elevated after menopause, castration, and in premature ovarian failure. Increased intraovarian estradiol production occurs as follicular maturation advances, thereupon stimulating increased FSH receptor activity and FSH follicular binding. The levels of FSH may be normalized through the administration of estrogens, which demonstrate a negative feedback mechanism. Abnormal relationships between FSH and LH and between FSH and estrogen have been linked to anorexia nervosa and polycystic ovarian disease. Although there are significant exceptions, ovarian failure is indicated when random FSH concentrations exceed 40 mIU/mL, which can be determined using the FSH ELISA test kit. High levels of FSH in men may be found in primary testicular failure and Klinefelter syndrome. Elevated concentrations are also present in cases of starvation, renal failure, hyperthyroidism, and cirrhosis.
