Method Principle
This Diagnostic Automation/ Cortez Diagnostics Inc. Folic Acid quantitative ELISA test is based on the principle of the enzyme linked immunosorbent assay-ELISA method. A folic acid conjugate is bound on the surface of a microplate wells. Folic acid containing samples or standards and an antibody directed against folic acid are added to the wells. Immobilized and free folic acid compete for the antibody binding sites. For further details please refer to complete instructions manual supplied with the product.




Background Information
Folate is a common term for both naturally occurring folate found in foods and folic acid. Folic acid is a type of B vitamin and a synthetic form of folate that is found in supplements and added to fortified foods. Folic acid is water-soluble, therefore extra folic acid is eliminated through the urine and as a result human body does not store folic acid, thus a continuous supply of it is required. Folates play an important role in the synthesis of nucleic acids and some amino acids Folic acid is the most stable representative of the group of folates that is added to a broad range of food. Traditional methods to measure folic acid are mostly microbiological, TLC, and HPLC methods which are time consuming and need complex equipment. This ELISA test kit allows rapid and accurate detection of folate in 2.5 to 4 hours.
