T3 ELISA kit Intended Use
Triiodothyronine (T3) in vitro competitive ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) kit is designed for the quantitative measurement of total T3 in Human serum. This test is useful for diagnosis of Thyroid diseases such as hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism.

Test Method Principle
This Diagnostic Automation/ Cortez Diagnostics Inc. T3 EIA, a 96-well plate, has been coated with a secondary antibody (goat anti-mouse IgG). This test is based on the principle of competitive immunoassay. Samples, standards and the mouse anti-T3 are added to the wells, where T3 in the sample competes for antibody binding. Background Information
Thyroid hormones are extremely important and have diverse actions. Under- or over-production of these hormones has potent effects. T3 & T4 (thyroxin) are the two main hormones produced by the thyroid gland. The concentration of T3 is much less than that of T4, but its metabolic potency is much greater. The production of T3 and T4 by thyroid is regulated by the pituitary hormone (thyroid stimulating hormone, TSH) which in turn is also regulated by the hypothalamus TSH Releasing Hormone (TRH).
Separate blood tests can be performed to measure the free (unattached) T3 hormone in the blood. A total or free T3 test may be ordered when a patient has an abnormal TSH and/or T4 test result. The Thyroid Panel combines T3, T4, and TSH which are some of the most common markers today. A total thyroid test workup including T3, T4 and TSH may be ordered in thyroid related disease.
